Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)

At St Luke’s Catholic Primary School Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is taught in line with our Catholic ethos, the teachings of the Church and the statutory requirements set out by the Department for Education. Our RSHE provision supports pupils’ personal development and wellbeing, helping them to grow as confident, respectful and responsible individuals.

As a school within the Archdiocese of Liverpool, our approach to RSHE is rooted in Gospel values and promotes respect for the dignity of every human person.

Journey in Love

We use Journey in Love, the approved RSHE programme for Catholic schools, to deliver RSHE across all year groups. The programme is age-appropriate, developmental and progressive, ensuring that learning builds year on year.

Journey in Love places relationships at the heart of learning and supports pupils to:

  • Understand themselves as unique, loved and created by God
  • Develop healthy and respectful relationships
  • Recognise the importance of family and community
  • Grow in self-respect and respect for others
  • Understand physical, emotional and social development in an age-appropriate way

What Pupils Learn

Through Journey in Love, pupils learn about:

  • Friendships and relationships
  • Families and different family structures
  • Respect, boundaries and personal safety
  • Emotional wellbeing and self-esteem
  • Changes as they grow and develop
  • How to keep themselves healthy and safe

Teaching is sensitive, inclusive and delivered in a safe environment where pupils feel supported and valued.

Working with Parents

We value the partnership between home and school. Parents are informed about RSHE content and have opportunities to view materials and discuss any questions or concerns.

Further information can be found in our RSHE Policy, available on the school website.
